What was the challenge that led Whitfield to GOGov?

One of the primary challenges faced by Whitfield County was the need for streamlined communication across various community entities. With multiple pages and platforms representing different facets of the community—such as the county government, city of Dalton, and local organizations—it became evident that residents struggled to stay informed.

To address this issue, Whitfield County turned to GOGov Solutions adopting its Citizen Notifications Solution and municipality branded mobile app. The county’s initiative to create a unified community app stemmed from a collaborative effort involving city officials, the Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Development Authority, and the Convention and Visitors Bureau. The goal was to centralize information and provide residents with a single, accessible platform for all community updates.

“Originally we were going to make it just a Whitfield county app, but then I went to the city, the Chamber, the Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Downtown Development Authority and brought them together. This app features links to key websites, event calendars, and updates on parks and recreational facilities.

• Enhanced Engagement: The app supports notifications for traffic advisories, emergency alerts (such as a recent bear sighting), and local events, helping residents navigate daily life more efficiently.
• Positive Feedback: The app has been widely praised for its easy-to-navigate interface and the straightforward access it provides to essential information for residents.

This summer, the app played a key role in keeping residents informed about the “Off the Rails Summer Concert Series” hosted by the Downtown Development Authority. Every Friday, notifications were sent out detailing the evening’s performance at Burr Park’s downtown amphitheater, allowing residents to stay updated on the weekend’s musical lineup.
