San Ramon Valley Fire District (SRV Fire) is a leader in fire protection and emergency services, covering nearly 200,000 residents across 155 square miles in California. The San Ramon Valley Fire District (SRV Fire) serves a population of just under 200,000 residents across 155 square miles in California, providing comprehensive fire protection and emergency services. SRV Fire is responsible for fire suppression, hazardous materials response, technical rescue, and community safety initiatives to protect lives and property throughout the district. Leading the Community Risk Reduction division is Fire Marshal Roy Wendel, who oversees efforts to mitigate risks, enhance public safety, and ensure fire prevention measures are effectively implemented across the community.

The Challenge that led SRV Fire to GOGov

One of the primary reasons SRV Fire partnered with GOGov was to streamline the 6,000 vegetation management inspections conducted each summer. Previously, the district relied on an outdated system of paper records, spreadsheets, and an old database, which was both time-consuming and inefficient, pulling resources away from other critical responsibilities.     SRV Fire utilizes Code Enforcement software to manage inspections and compliance tasks internally, ensuring that all processes are documented and organized. Meanwhile, Citizen Request Management empowers the public to submit complaints and service requests directly through an easy-to-use platform. This combination allows SRV Fire to address issues promptly while keeping residents informed.
  • Seamless Integration for Better Case Management
    When a resident submits a complaint through Citizen Request Management, the system can generate a corresponding Code Enforcement case if necessary. This ensures that issues are tracked from start to finish. Staff members can also manually enter and manage cases, preventing important requests from slipping through the cracks. The integration provides a clear record of all reported issues, helping SRV Fire maintain accountability and transparency.

    One of the biggest benefits of this system is the significant reduction in phone calls and emails from residents seeking updates on their requests. Since the system provides real-time tracking, residents are automatically notified of any status updates on their case, eliminating the need for repeated follow-ups. This not only improves customer satisfaction but also frees up staff time, allowing them to focus on more critical tasks.

    With all cases logged in GOGov’s centralized system, SRV Fire can analyze historical data and trends to make informed decisions. As Fire Marshal Roy Wendel puts it, “The ability to get historical data and trends—that’s huge, and it’s hard to do if you’re working off spreadsheets and paper.
  • Increased Efficiency in Vegetation Inspections
    This year, SRV Fire completed an impressive 6,000 vegetation inspections—a task made significantly easier with Code Enforcement. The system allows staff to track inspections in real time, monitor progress, and ensure no areas are overlooked. Compared to previous years, Fire Marshal Wendel notes that inspections were completed much faster, helping to reduce fire hazards in the community.

Future Plans for SRV Fire

San Ramon Valley Fire plans to continue leveraging GOGov’s innovative products for future initiatives, with a vision to expand their usage across the district. With 10 distinct facilities and additional fleet facilities, SRV Fire is looking to broaden the integration of GOGov’s solutions to streamline operations across all areas. This expansion will enhance their ability to manage various departments, improve efficiency, and ensure that every facility within the district benefits from the powerful capabilities GOGov offers. By extending these tools throughout their entire operation, SRV Fire aims to build a more connected, efficient, and responsive fire district for both staff and the community they serve.

Advice to others considering GOGov

One aspect that pleasantly surprised Fire Marshal Roy Wendel was that GOGov was the third database the district has worked with, but unlike the previous two, it was the only one that was fully customized and built out for them from the start. In the past, the district’s staff had to spend time building and customizing the database, but with GOGov, the system was up and running quickly with extensive support for any necessary changes. Additionally, the district was impressed by the marketing materials and promotion assistance that came with the systems, something Roy hadn’t anticipated.
