The 2021 Atlantic hurricane season is predicted to be more active than usual and the latest outlook by The Weather Company, increases the number of storms expected.
The outlook increases the number of named storms and major hurricanes by one and now calls for 19 named storms, eight hurricanes and four major hurricanes. A major hurricane is one that is Category 3 or higher (115-plus-mph winds) on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale.
This forecast is above the 30-year average (1991 to 2020) of 14 named storms, seven hurricanes and three major hurricanes.
