City of West Linn launches app to report issues, find info and more

The city of West Linn recently rolled out an app for smart phones that allows users to receive emergency alerts, find info on city events, elections and projects, and report issues like potholes, noise complaints or noxious vegetation. The app, which is available for free from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, launched Monday, July 22.

The app consolidates important information and links from the city’s website and gives residents a simple way to provide feedback on various matters or request help resolving issues.

The “make a request” option within the app allows residents to send requests to the City Council, the building and planning departments, the police department, library, parks and recreation, city administration, finance department, court, public works or whichever relevant department within the city.

West Linn communications director Danielle Choi said the city created the app as another way to interact with residents.

“Being responsive to our community’s evolving communication needs means finding new ways to bring information to the individual, rather than posting passive information on our website or relying on social media algorithms,” Choi said via email. “We still need those methods, but exploring new, more direct tools is part of a progressive approach.”

Choi mentioned the app could be a critical tool during emergency or weather events, and it will become more effective as more people begin using it.

During this initial rollout, Choi said the city hopes to hear feedback from residents who use the app. Reviews can be left within the app store or feedback can be sent directly to Choi at dchoi@westlinnoregon.gov.

Choi said West Linn city councilors have already tried the app and shared positive input.
