The City of Pickens in South Carolina recently launched a brand new app aimed at increasing transparency, accountability and ease of access for people who live there.
The app is called Pocket Pickens and city officials say it's the perfect way to have Pickens in your pocket.
The app acts as a one-stop shop featuring direct lines to city officials and first responders and offering access to event calendars, city codes and council meetings, among many other features.
"When people need to reach out to their city, they need to know they’re being heard, and they want an opportunity to get a pretty quick response with the app instead of placing a phone call and trying to track somebody down," Pickens City Administrator Tim O'Briant said. "They can get immediate feedback. We’re going to work it all the way through until you’ve received the help you need and deserve. The app is just a powerful tool for the city to keep everyone informed with our events, meetings coming up and important emergency information that may occur.”
Residents will also be able to pay bills through the app, such as utilities, water, sewer and garbage collection, according to O'Briant.
The app can be downloaded from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
