GOGov Customer Spotlight: City of Eagle Lake, MN
Blog

When a city prioritizes strong community connections, clear and timely communication becomes essential. That’s exactly the case in Eagle Lake, Minnesota—a quiet, family-focused town just outside the Mankato regional center. With just under 3,300 residents, Eagle Lake prides itself on being safe, friendly, and responsive to the needs of its community. But when a citywide power outage exposed the gaps in their emergency communication tools, local leaders knew they needed a better way to keep residents informed. That pivotal moment led Eagle Lake to GOGov—and the launch of a modern, reliable mobile app and notifications system that’s transformed how they share updates, build trust, and engage their community.

About Eagle Lake

Eagle Lake is a quiet, safe, and family-friendly community located just a few miles east of the Mankato–North Mankato regional center. With a population of just under 3,300, it’s a predominantly residential “bedroom” community where many residents choose to live for its peaceful atmosphere, beautiful parks, and excellent elementary school.

The city is especially popular among young families who value staying informed and connected to what’s happening around them. While there are some local businesses, Eagle Lake is largely defined by its close-knit neighborhoods and strong sense of community pride. Residents are passionate about their town, making open communication and timely updates a top priority for city leaders.

What was the challenge that led Eagle Lake to GOGov?

Eagle Lake first considered GOGov after a power outage disrupted the city’s ability to deliver water to residents. The incident created immediate concern in the community, and the city scrambled to communicate updates through channels like Facebook, the city website, and email. Unfortunately, none of these platforms offered the speed and reach needed during an emergency.

That moment became a wake-up call. City staff realized they needed a quick, reliable way to notify residents—especially in urgent situations. After researching what other municipalities were using and speaking with the GOGov team, Eagle Lake chose GOGov as the best fit—not only for emergencies, but also for everyday communication.

“I remember thinking, if we had a notification system, we could have immediately let people know what was going on and what to expect. That’s really what prompted us to look into this—more for emergency situations and needing really quick communication.”. - Jennifer Bromeland, City Administrator at City of Eagle Lake

How is Eagle Lake Using GOGov?

Eagle Lake is currently using GOGov’s Citizen Notifications Solution that comes with a muncipality branded local government app, Eagle Lake Connect. This app has become the city’s go-to platform for community notifications. Staff actively encourage both new and longtime residents to sign up, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive—residents find the app convenient, helpful, and easy to use.

The app proved especially valuable during a major storm event in June, when the city needed to quickly alert residents to temporarily reduce water usage. The ability to send timely, targeted messages made a big difference during the situation. Since then, the app has been used for snow emergencies, community updates, and other key announcements—ensuring that residents receive the information they need, when they need it.

Thanks to Eagle Lake Connect, the city has seen a noticeable drop in phone calls and resident questions. More people are staying informed through the app, which helps reduce the workload on staff.

“The feedback we’ve gotten from residents is that they really appreciate the app. They like the format—it’s straightforward, gets to the point, and delivers information quickly in a way that catches their attention.”– Jennifer Bromeland, City Administrator

Staff also use resident interactions as opportunities to promote the app—encouraging even more community members to download and stay in the loop.

Future Plans for Eagle Lake

The city plans to keep building on their success with Eagle Lake Connect, especially as they prepare for a major street project. The app will play a key role in sharing updates, timelines, and traffic or service impacts throughout the project.

Beyond that, Eagle Lake remains committed to improving communication with residents. Their goal is to strike the right balance—providing timely, relevant updates without overwhelming users with too many messages. This thoughtful approach will guide their continued use of the app as a trusted communication tool.

Advice for other Municipalities Considering GOGov

Jennifer’s advice to other local governments considering GOGov is simple: “Definitely do it—you won’t regret it.” She emphasized how valuable the platform has been in helping Eagle Lake communicate more effectively with residents. She also pointed out that in today’s world of information overload, repetition is often necessary:

“Sometimes you have to get the same message out two or three times before it really sinks in and catches people’s attention.” Jennifer also praised GOGov’s ease of use and excellent customer service: “From setup to support, I’ve been very impressed. The rollout was easy, the platform is user-friendly, and any issues we’ve had are usually resolved the same day or within 24 hours.”
